Dealing with Carpet Beetles

Carpet Beetles are small, oval beetles around 2 to 4mm in length with a brown, grey and cream exterior.  The first sign of infestation may be finding the old skins which the beetles moults.

The adult carpet beetles are mostly seen in April, May and June when

they are looking for new sites to lay their eggs.  The grubs are most

active in October before they hibernate for the winter.

The larvae feed on clothes, carpets, curtains,

blankets and are the ones who cause damage to these items throughout your home or workplace.  The grubs can survive in starvation for several months.

The best way to prevent carpet beetles is to do a thorough check of the loft/eaves for old birds nests and get them removed.  Make sure the main problem areas are thoroughly hoovered i.e. cupboards/shelves/floorboards/carpets and upholstery.  Lift your carpets and underlay and hoover well.

An insecticide is needed to treat carpet beetles and all affected areas should be sprayed or dusted with professional, licensed products.  A pest controller should be called to carry this out, Barnard Pest Control can help treat carpet beetles.

We will give you clear instructions on how to prepare your home.  It's important you follow the instructions to ensure the best chance of wiping out the carpet beetles.

We will undertake 3 visits to ensure the treatment works, you will have to be out of the property for up to 4 hours after the treatment, this includes pets.
