Dealing with Carpet Moths

The most common moth is the so called clothes moth.  The clothes moth has bronze coloured wings with flecks of black.  The adult clothes moth is around 8mm long, although they can grow up to 18mm long.  They like to eat wool, hair, fur, feathers or food debris such as cereal, dried fruit and are scavengers of old birds nests.

Having more man made fibres in our homes and places of work has

reduced the moth problem faced by home owners.

Moth repellents work well to keep them from eaten any woolen jumpers,

carpets etc in your home.  Hang them in wardrobes or behind furniture if you have a wool carpet.  It's also a good idea to take sensible precautions such as cleaning all woollen products and storing things like jumpers/scarves in sealed bags or wrap them in paper and store them away in a tightly closed drawer/cupboard.

Like the carpet beetle, carpet moths like to feed on old birds nests so make sure any left in a loft/eaves space are cleared and the area thoroughly cleaned.

Clean your carpets regularly taking care to hoover around the edges.  Move furniture out and hoover behind.

If you are having severe problems and cannot get rid of the problem moths, Barnard Pest Control can undertake a professional spraying treatment to eradicate them.

We will give you clear instructions on how to prepare your home.  It's important you follow the instructions to ensure the best chance of wiping out the house moths.

We will undertake 3 visits to ensure the treatment works, you will have to be out of the property for up to 4 hours after the treatment, this includes pets.
